‘Sooryavanshi’ box office collection: Akshay Kumar’s cop act earns Rs 162 crore in two weeks – Times of India

Akshay Kumar revived Bollywood’s massive business with his grand entertainer ‘Sooryavanshi’, which arrived in theatres on the festive occasion of Diwali. And his brave move has set the cash registers ringing out loud at the box office. Bollywood witnessed a 100 crore movie close to two years. According to Boxofficeindia.com, ‘Sooryavanshi’ has collected a total of Rs 162.50 crore nett, during its second week at ticket windows. The film expected to enter coveted 200 crore club, with the Mumbai circuit contributing the moolah.

Directed by Rohit Shetty, this cop drama was slated to hit the screens during March 2020 but the pandemic delayed its release. ‘Sooryavanshi’ is touted to be a part of Rohit Shetty‘s thrilling cop universe which includes Ajay Devgn as ‘Singham’ and Ranveer Singh as ‘Simmba’. Katrina Kaif essays the leading lady opposite Akshay Kumar in this entertainer.

Now that ‘Sooryavanshi’ ahs released, Rohit Shetty is now working on ‘Singham 3’ with Ajay Devgn. Speaking about his plans the filmmaker had told ETimes, “After ‘Cirkus’, there’s a hint that we may carry forward the ‘Sooryavanshi’ story with ‘Singham’. Now Singham has that kind of effect that every time he comes on screen he makes an impact, but actually the last Singham film came out in 2014. Ajay and I have worked together in ‘Golmaal’ after that. So the idea now is to bring back the original cop, the character with whom it all started. ‘Singham 3’ will take atleast a year to start and then probably another year to get made. So we are looking at 2023, probably. It’s a long time, let’s see what happens.”
